The Whistler seaplane tour is a sightseeing flight, not a transfer. Harbour Air flies a small floatplane out from the water at Green Lake, climbs south over the Coast Mountains, loops past Garibaldi Lake and the Black Tusk, and brings you back down on the same lake you left from. Nobody gets off partway and nothing about the day is one-way.
The flight itself runs about thirty minutes. Free cancellation is offered if your plans change before you go, which matters more here than on a longer trip: a scenic flight is easy to move to a clearer morning, and there is no reason to fly it under cloud if you do not have to. Whichever morning you fly, the loop ends the same way it began, back at the same dock on Green Lake.
What you see from the window.
The two landmarks the flight is built around sit close together: Garibaldi Lake and the Black Tusk are about four kilometres apart in a straight line, so both come into view within the same short stretch of the loop. The lake is around 24 kilometres from the terminal as the plane flies, and the Black Tusk about 20, which is why the whole round trip fits inside thirty minutes in the air rather than a longer sightseeing route.
Garibaldi Lake sits inside Garibaldi Provincial Park in the Coast Mountains, and its water reads a strong turquoise blue from above. It is held in its basin by a wall of volcanic rock known as the Barrier. The Black Tusk stands nearby as a dark, steep-sided pinnacle, the eroded remnant of an old volcano, visible from a long way along the Sea to Sky corridor even at ground level.

The Harbour Air terminal is at 8069 Nicklaus North Boulevard in Whistler, on Green Lake and right beside the Nicklaus North golf course. Check in at the front counter at least forty minutes before your flight time, so budget more time for the terminal than for the flight itself: forty minutes on the ground against thirty minutes in the air.
That means the visit is longer than the loop it is built around, and it is worth planning for rather than treating as a quick errand between other things in Whistler. Bring a passport or ID card to check in with, and allow time to find the counter before your slot: it is a working seaplane dock beside a golf course, not a terminal with signage at every turn. This flight is not suitable for people with mobility impairments.
A small floatplane, not a scheduled service.
Harbour Air also runs scheduled seaplane services between Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler, and it is worth being clear that this is not one of them. Those flights are transport, getting people from one city to another. This one goes up, loops over Garibaldi Lake and the Black Tusk, and lands back where it started; the destination is the view, not a place to arrive.
The aircraft is a small floatplane that takes off and lands on water rather than a runway, which is most of what makes the terminal feel different from an airport: no security queue, no gate, just a lake and a dock. Both the check-in and the flight happen at that same stretch of Green Lake, so the whole outing stays in one place rather than spreading across Whistler. No road to Garibaldi Lake.
On the ground, reaching Garibaldi Lake means a long, demanding uphill hike from the Rubble Creek trailhead, inside the same Garibaldi Provincial Park the flight passes over. There is no road to the lake itself, at any point, for any vehicle. That is the whole case for the flight in one sentence: thirty minutes in the air reaches a view that otherwise takes a full day of walking to earn.
Seen from above, the lake and the Barrier that holds it, and the Black Tusk rising nearby, read as a single landscape rather than two separate hikes on two separate days. That is not something the trail itself ever shows you, since neither landmark is visible from the other's approach on foot.
Who this flight suits.
This suits a Whistler visit that has an afternoon or a morning to spare rather than a full day, since the flight itself is short and the ground time around it is real: forty minutes checking in, thirty in the air, and a drive back to wherever you are staying. It is not a substitute for the Rubble Creek hike if walking to the lake is the point of your trip; it is a way to see the same lake and the Black Tusk together for anyone who cannot or does not want to make that climb, or who simply has an hour to spare rather than a full day on the trail.
